F.A.Q

u

Should I eat before Acupuncture?

Yes. We recommend eating a light meal or snack before your appointment. Avoid arriving on a completely empty stomach, and make sure you are adequately hydrated.

u

What should I wear to the appointment?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing whenever possible. For many acupuncture treatments, we need access to areas below the elbows and knees. If another area needs to be treated, appropriate draping will be provided. Tight stretch pants are not recommended.

u

What does Acupuncture feel like?

Acupuncture needles are extremely thin. You may feel a brief pinch or sensation when a needle is inserted, followed by sensations such as warmth, and the limbs feeling deeply relaxed. Many patients become very calm, relaxed and take a brief nap during treatment.

u

Can I use my phone during treatment?

We ask that phones be silenced during your visit. The clinic is designed to be a quiet, relaxing environment for you and other patients, so this is a great time to unplug and rest.

u

How long do the needles stay in?

Needles are typically retained for approximately 20–30 minutes, depending on your treatment. This is your time to not think—this time is needed for the Acupuncture to do its work.

u

Can I wear perfume or fragrances to my appointment?

Please avoid strong perfumes, colognes and heavily scented products when possible. Some of our patients are sensitive to fragrances and environmental exposures.

u

Will I receive acupuncture at my first visit?

If you scheduled an acupuncture appointment, treatment is generally included during your first visit after we review your health history and determine an appropriate treatment plan.

u

How many treatments will I need?

This varies from person to person. Acute concerns may respond relatively quickly, while longstanding or complex conditions often require a series of treatments. We will discuss recommendations based on your history, symptoms and response to care.

u

What should I do if I'm running late?

Please contact the clinic as soon as possible if you are running late. Arriving late may shorten the amount of treatment time available so that we can remain on schedule for the next patient. If too late for an adequate treatment, the appointment will be cancelled and you will be charged for the visit.

u

What should I do after acupuncture?

Most people can return to their normal activities immediately. Drink plenty of water, eat normally and pay attention to how you feel following treatment. Some people feel deeply relaxed or tired afterward, while others feel energized.
